Riecker Building The newly renovated Riecker Complex...

is located in the historic downtown district of the Village of McConnelsville. This building was named after Judge Carlos Riecker who seved for 4 years as prosecuting attorney and 36 years as Common Pleas Court Judge in Morgan County. Judge Riecker died April 29, 1990, leaving over $2 million to the Morgan County Commissioners with instructions that this money be used to benefit "Morgan County and its citizenry." This financial gift with an Ohio Nature Works grant and a USDA/RD low interest loan allowed the Board of County Commissioners in 1998 to purchase this three story building and complete the project over the next four years. The building would be renovated for county offices and accommodations added for benefits to all residents of the county. Within the Riecker Complex you will find the OSU Extension Service, Job and Family Services, Health Clinic, and county offices. The total project cost approximately $4.5 million to complete. The Riecker Complex has approximately 23,000 square-feet within the existing building where great effort was taken to preserve the historical integrity of the building. An additional 19,000 square-feet was added to the north side of the building. You will find a small park located directly in front of the complex that includes a sunken garden with lowseating benches. The park is designed in the shape of Morgan County, and the floor pattern is laid out with all 14 townships and the Muskingum River. Construction was completed in 2002.
